I agree, in principle, with the snow tires idea.
However, for some cars (my Hondas at least), there are year-round tires that are rated as good in snow as dedicated snow tires.
My car friends told me to look at reviews and pricing at
https://www.tirerack.com
, and I haven't had a problem since.
