Seriously, though, there was no single shining moment of the original movie (the only one I truly love) that was not reprised in this. Not a single one.
This was a fun movie, a lovely movie, but it wasn't the one I wanted. Possibly it couldn't be. I'd love for someone to do something marvelous and shining and unexpected and new. But the mythology of the Star Wars Universe is neither deep nor wide, and there's not a lot to work with. The politics and economics of working within an extant block-buster movie framework further constrains what is possible. So there will probably never be, for me, another Star Wars within that universe.
I liked Rey, I liked General Organa, I loved their hug at the end. I was shocked when I realized that they were going to kill Han Solo, but then the timing was off, they delayed too long so that the death was almost a relief instead of a shock.
I'm still not forgiving Abrams for what he's done to the Star Trek universe, though. Never, ever forgiving him for that.
