Thursday morning, I finished my third week in a row of overtime. This means that I worked 48.5 hours a week. This doesn't sound terrible by tech company death march standards, but you have to take into account that I'm working third shift, which even for a natural night person is a bit of a strain, and one of my known mood destabilizers is working more than 40 hours a week. I've been having what I call choppy brain weather for about two weeks. It took me until today to realize that it was probably linked to the overtime. The money will be nice, but it was probably unwise.

Backing up: Sunday, I had to drive to Coon Rapids for my OT shift. I do not like this drive. I managed to pour coffee onto myself on the way in, and reeked of coffee all night. When I got there, I discovered that I had forgotten my dinner. The woman I was working with kindly let me know where the closest food was, and was not upset when I lit out to buy a sandwich at Subway for later. I hate Subway sandwiches, by the way.

Monday morning, I got home just fine, and got into the house just fine, and locked the door behind me, which in our house requires a key. Which means that I was absolutely certain, Monday night, on my way to work, that my keys were in the house. Unfortunately, I was not able to narrow the location down any further than that. Eventually, running late, I resorted to taking spare house and car keys to get to work. When I got home Tuesday, I searched every possible location multiple times, and did not find them. I was very upset.

I'm pretty sure something horrible happened on Tuesday, but I've forgotten what it was. Possibly this is a good thing.

Wednesday evening, on my way to work, I leaned over to get my salad from the bottom shelf of the fridge. My phone fell out of my purse. It seemed to be working just fine. However, several hours later, at work, the home, menu, and back keys had stopped working. There is a setting to let one put those keys on the screen, rather than as logical buttons at the bottom of the phone, so I chose that option. They didn't work, either. On the assumption that I had a software problem (and yes, I tried power off and reboot several times) I decided to try to reset my phone. I have back up turned on, so hopefully I wouldn't lose too much, although I actually have no idea how to recover from back up. Spoiler: this was a mistake. When I then tried to enter the information, I discovered that the bottom tier of the keyboard didn't work, and there was therefore no way to enter my email address, because the dot key is only on the bottom tier, and there was no way to enter it. So, pretty likely a hardware problem.

Much frantic misery ensued. Thursday evening, after some sleep, and David trying to fix the phone and failing, I managed to sketch out a recovery path. I bought a new phone of the same make and model from eBay, from a reputable seller. Not cheap, but cheaper than many of the new options. I order a new sim card for my new-to-me phone. I then transferred my cell service back to my old HTC Evo. I know that the HTC has a dickey battery, but when kept plugged in, it works ok. I then also ordered a protective case for my new-to-me One Plus One phone, and a replacement battery for my HTC Evo, since it's been useful as a back up. I ordered it online, since it was the difference of $30. Batteries Plus charges $35 for a new battery, Amazon charged me $5, which included shipping. The new phone and the battery for the old phone are supposed to arrive next Thursday.

So guess what happens next. Yes, yes, the back up phone dies. That does happen. But that's not the next thing. The next thing is that I wake up with what look to be 18 or 20 very itchy bites on my left hip. I know if I take it to the doctor, they will tell me they are insect bites, that there's no way to tell what kind of insect bites, that I should put steroidal creme on the affected area, and take a lot of anti-histimines. I'm not certain, but actually pretty sure that these are not insect bites. My cats do not go outside, and do not have fleas. No one else is getting bit, even when they sleep in my bed. My mattress pad does not have any stains from bed bug feces, and bed bug bites tend to present in threes or fours, not something close to a double dozen. I could be wrong, but except for the rash/bites on my body, there are no symptoms of an arthropodic infestation. Rash or bites, they are incredibly uncomfortable, itchy and sometimes needley/stingy. I hate itching a lot.

Then, my back up phone decides to refuse to charge at all. We are still hoping it's just the battery. Hope, hope, hope. At any rate, at this very moment, it's dead to the world. This has creates two very significant issues. The first is that I cannot play Neko Atsume. The second is that I cannot use the phone to guide me to work on Monday, and for reasons, I have to go to Coon Rapids, again, for work. (Round trip, 43.4 miles, vs. round trip of 4.9.)

I am washing all my bedding, regardless. As I pulled the mattress pad off of the mattress, my keys materialized. They were between the mattress and the frame at the foot of the bed. I'm hoping that this is a sign that things are getting better.

Meanwhile, I hate the universe.

I'm glad you found your keys. Kind of a small improvement to an overall shitty week, but at least things seem to be moving in the right direction.

It occurs to me that the rash could be shingles. So it might be worth taking to the doctor, because they can treat shingles with a specific antiviral now but it's important to start the treatment as early as possible.

Well, there's a cheerful thought.

I've been thinking about getting the shingles vaccine, anyway. It's not presenting where shingles normally present, and I've had several other similar presentations, in different areas, but again, not where shingles normally present. Still, if it's still bothersome later this week, I shall hie me to the doctor and ask them to think about something other than arthropods.

Nor do I play one on TV, "Although shingles can occur anywhere on your body, ..." http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/shingles/basics/definition/con-20019574

They have pretty good drugs for it these days.

I hope you have a speedy recovery from whatever it is.

Shingles doesn't itch. Shingles HURTS.

K. [also: you have to start the anti-viral drugs with a couple of days. "Still bothersome later this week" = "failed to begin anti-vitals within the useful window"]
