I called my two senators, Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar, and my representative, Keith Ellison this morning. (And got points for it in Habitica.) Here is my script:

My name is Lydia Nickerson, and I voted for you. I wanted to let you know that I support your efforts to have the Russian hacking investigated. I also want to tell you that I have grave concerns about the incoming Trump administration. I believe that his business entanglements constitute, not merely conflicts of interest, but also very probably violate the constitution.

I want to strongly encourage you to fight for the preservation of the ACA, Medicare, and Medicaid. I also want you to continue to fight for LGBT rights. I believe you stand against hate, and I stand with you.

It wasn't fun, but it is done. Amy Klobuchar had the nicest and most encouraging staffer, Keith Ellison the least happy-sounding. All three staffers were polite, of course, but only Amy's sounded enthusiastic. So, there you go. Did a thing.

Need to call state people, probably tomorrow.

Okay, I did it too. My rep's phone was answered immediately -- I was caught off guard. Senator Boxer's had a voice mail set up. Senator's Feinstein's says to leave a message but hangs up immediate! Full voicemail box, I'm guess. So I sent her email. Thanks for the impetus.

A week or two ago, there was a neighborhood event with my wonderful Representative, Jan Schakowski. After, of course, people wanted to talk to her and she was giving full individual attention. When I could politely take a turn, I thanked her in advance for all the extra grief she was going to have with the new Administration. Her face fell a little with the thought, but she took it the way I meant.

And since it's sort of on topic, I'm dunning people to learn three simple URLs: house.gov and senate.gov list all the members with complete contact info (including home district offices) and complete committee and subcommittees lists; and congress.gov has complete information on bills, text, committee assignment, cosponsors, etc.

Still mulling over what to say to state people. They need to do things like preserve MinnesotaCare, if the money can be squeezed out of the goddamn Republicans in the legislature. I don't know how many Minnesota cities are sanctuary cities, but Trump has threatened to stop federal funding to sanctuary cities, and that has to be made up somewhere. I wish the Republicans were not such austerity fetishists.
