Yesterday, I was laid off. My manager and the head of the company called me in conference. They apologized for not doing it in person, which is just nutty. I have a lot of stuff at the office, since it turned out to be very convenient to keep a mini kitchen there. I talked them into letting me go to collect my stuff, since it's really more than a boxful, and hard to describe where everything is. This will probably happen Monday, in company of my manager.
It was the best job I ever had, both in terms of the work and the location. Also the best paying job I have every had. For the last 8 years, I have not had financial precarity, and it was luxurious. I am 58, in an industry which may not come back after the epidemic is abated, for a variety of reasons. No, I don't want to talk about it, thank you very much. And yes, I have a lot of tasks to do, and no, I don't want to talk about that right now, either.
Monday, I will attempt to do some of the sensible things that are necessary. This weekend, I'm just gonna be depressed.
