Extracted from email I sent. Too tired to rewrite. Must work tonight, must sleep RSN. Here's the quick update on the adult female:

There was a reasonable sized turd in the cat box this morning. I was happy. I collected it, along with Lady Jane (who was sitting on the chair in the sun room) and trundled off to the Kitty Klinic. They had a 9:00 appointment.

She is female. She has probably had kittens recently. Either that, or she's pregnant, but Dr. McMenomy couldn't really feel any kittens. He's not sure. However, she has mammary gland development consistent with recent pregnancy. There was no milk however. The chances that Bucky, now Thor, is actually hers go up significantly. He suggests that we look around the neighborhood for the remaining kittens for a couple more days. Will send email to Steven suggesting same.

She weighs 5.5 pounds. Her fever was 106. She tests negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV. She could not be given vaccinations today because she is sick. She is anemic, normally when you spin down blood you get, I think he said 30 - 40% hemoglobin, and she's just at 25%. Also, it's yellowish, which suggests jaundice. The liver functions came back fine, though, they did two different tests. There is a type of blood parasite that can cause this, but they did not see it in the microscope. It is possible that the infection she has is causing the jaundice. The word "optimistic" was used several times. He estimates her at maybe a year. Young. Maybe less than a year.

He gave her some a/d prescription food, which she thought smelled wonderful and she ate some. He sent the rest of the can home with her. He also gave me an antibiotic. She's to have one half tablet once a day for ten days. He gave her her first dose while we were there. It can be dissolved in water and given via syringe, if necessary. It's rather big, I think a pill pocket probably won't do the trick.

He also gave her sub-q fluids.

He says that she should be isolated from other cats for about a month, and then re-tested for Feline Leukemia.

He apologized for how expensive it was. What can you do? It was $400. So, the overtime I worked today covers it. Bye bye stylish but inexpensive boots. Hello, pretty little cat.

I got her home, let her out of the carrier, and went to get a dish to put a little of the a/d food into. When I got back she had managed to hide someplace really good, I could not find her at all. She's probably going to be upset with me for a bit. Maybe she'll like Pamela or Raphael better, though.

Am now in process of falling over. Hopefully she'll come out and be sociable, but she really didn't like all the poking and prodding. Poor cat.

Oh, we're to keep in touch with the doctor over the next couple of days. Stool sample test will be back tomorrow, and they want to know how she gets on. Possible she won't have to go back until it's time to get shots. And, of course, she's going to need to be spayed.

Talked to Ann briefly last night. The little black kitten formerly known as Bucky has been renamed Thor by her 14 year old. Do you want to argue with him? 'Cause I sure don't.

Thor is eating on schedule. He has eliminated several times, but not after every meal. He is noticeably rounder. He has figured out the bottle, and is doing well with it. Ann reports that cutting an "x" in the tip of the nipple makes it pliable enough for him to manage, and he's quite happy with it.

She bought a hamster carrier to carry him around him. He's not much bigger than a hamster. He needs to go wherever she she goes, since he needs to be fed every two to three hours.

And now I really am going to go to bed.

ETA: Ann weighed Thor, and he was 3.25 ounces. Since newborn kittens are typically about 3.5 ounces, he's underweight. But he sure seems healthy. And loud. So very, very loud.
