A note about my not-a-journal
Aug. 3rd, 2006 02:43 pmI don't really use LJ as a journal, just so y'all know. I treat it more as an APA, or something. It's a place for essays, and occasional entries about things in my life. But it's not a day-to-day thing. You probably noticed that part already, though.
The other thing is, I don't read other people's LJs very often. I'm sorry if you think I'm being rude. If you issue invitations or make major announcements on LJ, you can be pretty certain that I haven't seen them. Friends may or may not remember to mention these things to me.
I feel excluded, sometimes. Of course, people who set up social events and announce important information using LJ usually feel like I'm not really interested in them. On the other hand, turn about is fair play. When I was heavily involved in r.a.s.f.f., a lot of people who didn't participate felt excluded by the conversations of people who were involved. There are really endless possibilities for miscommunication, almost as many as there are in face-to-face.
If there's something interesting on someone's LJ, or something you want to be sure I know, you could always drop me email. Not that I'm anything like a stellar correspondent, but I almost always read my e-mail.
So, just so that you know. I'm not actually ignoring you in particular. I'm just ignoring you in general.

Date: 2006-08-03 08:12 pm (UTC)K. [do you really think a email saying "there's something interesting in [this] LJ" would make a difference in how much LJ you have time for?]

Date: 2006-08-03 08:18 pm (UTC)I'm happy to read your posts when you do post, and I often wonder what's going on with you when you don't.
I try to remember to send interesting stuff to events, on the theory that some people who don't read LJ regularly might be more inclined to read e-mail from events. But I have no evidence to corroborate (or disprove) the theory, so I mostly do it on hope. And I'll admit I don't always remember to send stuff to events in a timely fashion.
I hope you're well, and that things are going well with you.

there's never enough time to do all the things one would want to do if there were enough time. no sweat; i enjoy the occasional post you make, whether or not you have time, energy, or interest to reciprocate.

Date: 2006-08-05 05:17 am (UTC)An email saying "look at this" wouldn't make a difference in how much time I had, per se, but it would mean that I'd be likely to go and look at it rather than do something else. The thing with LJ is that there's no way I've found to filter for the stuff that I find interesting. Even the most fascinating people don't have consistently fascinating LJs. There's also the politics of "friending" and "un-friending" people, which I find incredibly distasteful. To me, it seems like it has the potential for huge disaster.

Date: 2006-08-05 05:24 am (UTC)My god. "Time in a Bottle" was (to my great distress) my high school's graduation class's "class song." And now that sucker will be in my head for hours and hours.
"Punch, punch, punch with care
"Punch in the presence of the passenger."
You are evil.
