In which I have a cool friend.

The last time Moshe Yudkoswky was in town, he asked me where my relationship with David is going. "Going? It's staying right here," I said. Turned out, he was a little concerned because, what with us not being married and not being able to get married and all, there's really no provision for me if I get sick or die or anything. I admitted that I had had papers drawn up for durable power of attorney and medical power of attorney and such, but had somehow never gotten around to getting them signed and notarized. He proceeded to start to nag me about this. So, he asks me the other day if I've gotten them signed. I haven't. He said, "I'm sending you a package." I said, "Ok."

Package arrrived. It says on it, "Do not open until you call." Moshe called. I opened the package. In it is a certificate, all nicely framed. Moshe read the text as I followed along. It said:

"Our soverieign Lord the King chargeth and commandeth all persons, being assembled, immediately to disperse themselves, and peaceably to depart to their habitations, or to their lawful business, upon the pains contained in the act made in the first year of King George, for preventing tumults and riotous assemblies. God save the King"

"Moshe," I said, "No one has ever read me the Riot Act before."

What a most excellent friend.

If I was not so busy nagging my BROTHER on this point, I might well get around to nagging other people. So the rest of the world ought to thank the said brother, I suppose.

a) that's super excellent.
b) get yourself to a bank and get those things notarized. honest. please don't make me invoke mike.
c) if you can't do that, there's *got* to be a notary in fandom who will come to the pool party...

Moshe sounds wonderful.

Get those papers signed.

Get 'em signed tout suite! I can't tell you what a pain in the posterior it was to deal with my mother when she really was actually past the point that she should have been allowed to sign. Don't wait til it's too late and you're not considered competent to sign because something unfortunate (how's that for an understatement?) has happened. Protect yourself and him.

That's great!

And, yes-- Maybe a web site should declare an international Do the Relationship Paperwork Day, for those of us who don't automatically do it through marriage. Technically, if Supergee and I died tomorrow, Womzilla would have no right to the house!

"international Do the Relationship Paperwork Day"

This is brilliant!
