Ok. Rachel's parents have shown up. I am enormously relieved. Mind you, they are stereotypes, but well, they are there. (And really, Jeff Goldblum, always good.)

Glee. It's not very good on, well, most things. Plot, character, race, disability, gender, etc. But it is actually pretty good on gay portrayals. I really like Kurt and Blaine's relationship. I really like Santana and Brittany. I really like Whassname Korovsky. It's probably because so much of it hasn't been done on mainstream television before, and in 10 years its going to look pretty lame and rudimentary. But, honestly, I'm so glad it's there.

The other thing I like about Glee is that when they do all that pop music that I don't really give a shit about, I can kind of see why other people like it. I don't actually like it better, when I encounter it in the wild, I don't like it better because of Glee. But, during those moments while Glee is performing it, I can kind of see why people care. On the other hand, when Glee does music I do care about, I kind of care about it less while they're doing it. So, I have no idea what that means.

Glee. Stupid and confusing, but somehow addictive.

Yeah, Glee gets the teen angst right, and it does well by GLBT relationships, but the rest of it can be er problematic.

I like your point about the music, too. When the creators were promoting the series' debut, they played a bit from one of the songs: Amy Winehouse's "Rehab." It was brilliant. But then, I already liked the song before. Isn't that what covering songs helps to do, though: give a different perspective on a song and its characteristics? And sometimes the best showcase for a song isn't necessarily the original artist (see "Sweet Jane" performed by the Cowboy Junkies, "Purple Haze" done by Jimi Hendrix, etc.).
