So, the verdict is: trigger finger of the thumbs. I took my crocheting in so that the doctor could see what I'm doing. She pointed out that in addition to moving my wrists, I am doing a weird, twisty sort of thing with my thumbs as I manipulate the cloth and yarn.

She gave me a referral to a hand specialist OT. She thinks that some OT and exercises should deal with the problem. She said that I could continue crocheting. She also said that, down the road, we could look at steroid injections or surgery if the OT didn't work but starting with the OT was what she suggested. I was pleased.

She also suggested naproxen or ibuprofen to help reduce swelling.

So, now I need to research trigger finger. Yay and all that rot.

Well, if it had to happen at all this isn't a bad set of options. I am so glad she didn't try to make you stop crocheting. I even say this from the purest of motives!

I hope the OT isn't too expensive.

Yay for such a quick, clear diagnosis, and an equally clear "what's next" treatment plan.
