So, LJ is giving me this new look and I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate it. With hate sauce. And some random hate thrown in. Too much white space, looks weird, isn't what I expect, etc. Also, it calls my Friends Page my Friends Feed, and this is so very minor, but it annoys me.

How do I go back to what I had. I was using, I think they call in Notepad. It looked a little bit like a notebook, with a fake spiral binding on the left, and the page was a bit beige. It was amazingly fucking pedestrian, but I liked it. At the moment, my own LJ still looks like that, but my Friends Page does not. I tried changing to the new style, in hopes that it would then, again, give me the option to revert to the old style, but it doesn't and won't and I just hate this. Oh, I mentioned the hate?

So unhappy, now.

I found the revert to old thingy, and it helps a little, but my Friends Page still looks wrong. Still hate with hate sauce.

Fuck!!!!

So, I appear to have the endless scroll thing going on my Friends Page, which is also perfectly horrible. But the thing is, if I go to the comments and read comments, as one is wont to do, and then hit the back button, which always before took me back to my Friends Page, and almost always to the entry I'd just gone to the comments on, now when I hit the back button it takes me to...the top of the feed. Which, you know, if I'm kinda behind, could he fifty or eighty entries ahead of where I just was, and the only way I know to go back to where I was is to just, you know, fucking scroll. Really? What the fucking hell?

I hate that too. It is stupid and useless.

However! If you click on the Back button but hold down the mouse button instead of releasing it, a drop-down menu will show you a list of stuff, generally several iterations of "Username: Name of Post" and then "Entries feed for Username". If you then choose the first of the several lines that say "Entries feed for Username," that should get you back to the proper part of your Friends Page. At least, it works for me in Firefox.

This is cumbersome and stupid, but less annoying than the scrolling.

[livejournal.com profile] davidschroth had the same problem, I think.

I don't -- I wonder if it's because I steadfastly refused to click the button to try the new Friends page a few months ago. It showed up at the top of every page for a long time, but finally went away.

I did _not_ click the fucking button. It did this to me all on its own, this morning. And the support page says that this is only happening to Firefox users, but I have signed in using Safari and Opera, and it is still doing it to me, and it's so very, very horrible.

Have you tried IE? I know it has its problems, but that's what I'm using. No idea if there's a correlation, though.

I am glad other people are having the same problem. Not so that you can have company in your misery, but because that makes it more likely to be fixed.

I guess I could download IE, that is, Aiiieeeeeeee!!!! But, you know, I don't really want to have a browser I use only and solely for LJ. That seems cumbersome and annoying.

The one thing I found was that the new version was (in my case) fmsv.livejournal.com/feed, while the old one was fmsv.livejournal.com/friends. It still keeps popping me to the new one when I have to re-log-in occasionally, but then I can get back to the old by changing the URL. (I can't claim this will always work, because friends-of-friends has always had the same URL for me, and it's gone from the old to the new back to the old.)

I did find that, eventually. It is working, for now.

Gods, what on earth could possibly be the benefit of the endless scroll? How does that make anything easier or better?

Thanks for the info, even if I managed to find it on my own. Really no guarantee that would have happened. Probably a measure of my desperation that I managed to figure it out.

I suspect it's the changing user interface: more people have smartphones & tablets where swiping is the norm.

Continual swiping/scrolling to load more entries makes some sense in that context.
