Brain not in jar, Film at 11
Aug. 8th, 2014 10:13 amProgress. Let's start with the thing we are aspirationally calling an exercise plan. Ok, it's not actually exercise. It's mostly just moving about a bit, an attempt to conquer my fundamentally sessile inclinations.
I am managing to get out of my fucking chair about once an hour. If I manage to do it every half hour, it works better. However, moving every hour is sufficient to reduce the stiffness and limping significantly. I am managing to do a couple of Sun Salutations each work day, sometimes as many as three. The breathing thing is getting better, though I still have an additional breath in there towards the end, I think. There are a number of variations, and the ones I can google don't seem to be identical to the one I learned. Nevertheless, the movements are coming more easily, the breathing is more natural, and it doesn't feel odd and wrong anymore. There are a number of complexities and subtleties which I'm not getting right, but it still feels good. The Triangle pose is great, I can get all five fingertips on the floor with my left hand, and can actually get the palm of my right hand on the floor. I have done the Tree! I can usually hold it for about ten slow breaths, which is probably about a minute. Weirdly, I am more grounded on my left foot than my right. This has always been the case, and seems odd, but there you go. This is, of course, the fun part of a program, where the progress is real, visible, and dramatic. The problem is when I hit my plateau. Then it gets boring. We'll see. As expected, it is making absolutely no difference to my weight.
Thumbs.
Fuck.
Thumbs. So, the left thumb is doing pretty well. It's a bit sore, and likes it better if I keep the brace on it most of the time, but mostly it doesn't hurt, and it doesn't click when it bends (even without adult supervision.) I keep on forgetting to do the exercise I'm supposed to do for my left thumb. The right thumb... Yeah, not so good. Most of the time, it can't bend with or without supervision without clicking. And clicking is not allowed. It hurts rather more of the time. It's clearly happier in a splint, but even in the splint, it often hurts. I am doing a massage and ice thing once a day. (I'm supposed to do it twice a day, but life, busy, stuff, excuses.) The massage doesn't hurt too badly, but the ice really does. It's direct ice for two to three minutes, and it hurts and burns and stuff. I've taken to putting on a song of roughly the correct length to distract me while icing. This is kind of nice, in it's own odd way. So glad to have access to music, again.
That whole being a brain in a jar? Looks attractive, right now.
