Am now thumb-having
Aug. 18th, 2014 03:33 pmPlease note the singular. Thumb. Not thumbs.
My left thumb is far enough along that it no longer needs the splint on full-time. I am enjoined to wear it when doing repetitive tasks such as clothes folding or crocheting, and to wear it to bed, but not otherwise. I am to continue doing the exercises that I don't do often enough.
I have a new and improved splint for my right thumb, which is really, really not doing very well. That is to be worn all the time. Moreover, I have been scolded about not doing the massage-and-ice routine twice daily. It is boring and it hurts, a truly terrible combination. I have also been given an exercise for the right thumb. (It's basically the same exercise as for the left thumb, but done more gently.) I have also been strictly instructed to do the supervised bending three times or more a day, even if the thumb clicks, because really, honestly, I do not want the fucker to freeze. She also refers, off-handed (so to speak) about the osteoarthritis in my right thumb. I've never been diagnosed with arthritis, osteo or otherwise, but she seems pretty damn sure.
So, most of a thumb. And lectures. Progress, of sorts.

Date: 2014-08-19 12:23 am (UTC)So I guess that means that now you HAVE been diagnosed with arthritis?
I'm glad that one thumb has recovered. That should give you hope for the other one, I guess. LOL for "It is boring and it hurts, a truly terrible combination." Very true. I wish your right thumb all the luck in the world.
I wonder if this would be the best or the worst possible time to reread "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues?"
