She's lying in the couch next to me, stretched out and asleep. She looks like all is right with the world. She feels a little cooler to the touch, as if her fever is lower, but she's still warmer than I think she should be.

I gave her her second dose of the antibiotic (Orbax?). She was incredibly easy to pill. I thought that she'd hop off the sofa as soon as I'd shoved the pill down her throat, but nope, she's still here. She purred a bit before dropping off to sleep.

I haven't heard back from the doctor on the stool sample, should hear later today.

She came out for Pamela last night, growled at her kibble, ate some, then furbled on the floor, begging pets, purred, and fell asleep. She seems to like her new home, and her new people. She's very pretty, and I could be deluding myself, but she feels ever so slightly less bony, this morning.

Stool sample is negative. She couldn't have been living rough too long; no fleas, no worms, no mites.

She's very, very sweet.

She actually got up on the armchair to furble, but it was definitely a "pet me now, human" situation. She's actually a gorgeous little cat with very elegant markings. Her enormous feet just crack me up. Oh, yes, the other normal-cat thing she did was to firmly hold down a hind paw with both front paws before falling asleep. I don't think she was comfortable enough to curl up like that before.

Oh good! Antibiotic is working and yes, I'm betting she does feel less bony possibly because her fluids are probably back up. SubQ fluids are a real cat miracle because they get so dehydrated.

Exactly! That's why I paid for the sub-q fluids at the emergency vet hospital, even though I didn't feel I could afford the tests and hospitalization. And she was perkier, even after the first bit of fluids, when she got back home. The doctor on Tuesday gave her another round of fluids, along with all the other things.

She's still really, really bony. Her hip bones are startlingly prominent when you pet her, and you can feel every rib and every vertebrae. But she moves well, rolls and curls and furbles and lies on her head like a proper cat. I love her so much.

She sounds lovely. And Lady Jane Grey is such a wonderful name for a cat.

Let's hope it's not a name of ill-omen. I'm superstitious about names, and when I named her, I forgot that Lady Jane Grey came to a bad end. Queen for only nine days, and always the pawn of some man. I named a cat Cassandra, once. I love the name Cassandra, but won't ever do that, again. In my weird, superstitious paranoia, I think that if Bucky hadn't gotten renamed, he wouldn't have died. Magical thinking. Stupid, magical thinking.

Go, Lady Jane. Do better than your namesake, become queen for many, many days.

Hmm, fodder for magical thinking. Mother cats are called queens. If Bucky was only nine days old, then Lady Jane Grey was only a queen for nine days, but maybe she's survived her queenship?

Honestly, magical thinking. How very silly.

Raphael and I were discussing this, and R pointed out that Lady Jane Grey lived to be nineteen, which is a very respectable age for a cat.
