So, I gave Lady Jane Grey her third dose of antibiotic this morning. She is noticeably cooler to the touch. She growled when I pilled her, which I thought was amusing. She also growled at her wet food when I came too close. Again, so cute.

She is eating more, and continues to eliminate. I can no longer feel each and every rib, although her vertebrae and hip bones are painfully prominent. She likes to be petted, and is bossy. She scolds and nags when you are around. She doesn't appear to be much of a lap cat, to my disappointment. I like lap cats. On the other hand, I like her, too. She really likes to have the thin spot just at the opening of the ears rubbed. My best cat, Lilith, loved that, too. She reminds me, a little, of my Lilycat. Whom I still miss, with all my heart. Why do cats steal so much of our hearts, anyway?

Eventually, I will post some pictures. I love her so very much. I need to buy her some toys, a scratching post. At the moment, she's using the furniture, which isn't exactly ideal, but I don't have the heart to scold her.

Arwen, in the mean time, is quite pissed off about something. Probably Lady Jane Grey, though I'm not sure. At any rate, she was full of bitter complaint, this morning. Bitter, bitter complaint. I'm told that Nuit growled from under the door at Lady last night.

" Why do cats steal so much of our hearts, anyway?" Cynical answer? Toxoplasma gondii. Seriously, glad Lady Jane is doing well, especially considering the ill-fated moniker.

Have you read Westerfeld's vampire/parasite novel? Hell, can't remember it's name. It's really good, though, honestly, when I re-read it I may skip the interstitial material about parasites because they really weird me the fuck out. All the way fucking out. He does mention toxoplasma, but goes on to much weirder, nastier things.

Still, it's a very good book.

Funnily enough, those books (there are two) were definitely in the back of my mind when I threw off that quip. Peeps is the first one, and Last Days is the second. And yeah, the discussion of parasites in the first book is enough to creep anyone the fuck out.

There's a second one!!!! Must have. Must have. Thank you, I think.

Huh. You're the second person I've been able to bless with the knowledge that there's a second book. Enjoy it -- I certainly did. Me, I was grumping about the fact that there isn't a third. I am so used to Westerfeld doing things in threes (Uglies trilogy, Midnighters trilogy, Leviathan trilogy) that I was quite put out that there wasn't another set in this universe. On the other hand, I guess giving two people the thrill of finding that there's another after the first makes up a little for the disappointment of not having another after the second.

Oh, I forgot to mention. Lady Jane now comes when called. Presumably, she will only do this when she likes, as is traditional with cats. But at the moment, she wants attention, and so will come when I call her.

I now have the song "Lady Jane" going through my brain. Theodore Bikel's cover of it, because I didn't hear the Rolling Stones' original version until a decade or so later.

I blame you.

I'm very glad, though, that LJG is continuing to improve. Some have cats thrust upon them.
