It is, gods help me, 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.  Which means I will either be attending on no sleep, or a very short nap.  It starts outside the convention center.  Anyone else going? I don't think I will be safe to drive, but that is a perfectly reasonable thing to do by bus.  I think it's important to show the flag, to put backbone into the Democrats, and gods, I hate marching.  In what is likely to be killing heat.  Anybody have ideas about what to take or not take?  I am strongly considering leaving my phone at home, as I don't have the time or energy to make it cop-safe.  ID, obvs.  Money?  How much?  Water?  I am not strong, and cannot schlep lots of stuff.

I hate this.  I hate that it has come to this.  I don't know what the most effective forms of resistance are.  I'm going to do this.

Good for you! I would agree with leaving the phone at home. Take IDs, bus card if you have one, enough money for bus fare if you don't, and a little extra, but not much. Safer to donate online. Take a large bottle of water. The really hot day is tomorrow, by Saturday, it's supposed to be ordinary hot, though crowds generate heat (in more than one sense). There is also a strong chance of rain.

A light-weight water bottle or two would be my priority here, with water, iced tea, or whatever else you're likely tofind palatable while out in the heat. If you're leaving your phone home, be sure you know any phone numbers you're likely to need—write them on your body if not.

The usual about light-weight, light-colored clothing for heat. (I have three or four shirts with suitable slogans, and am likely to select based on shirt color, if I don't decide it's too hot for me to do this safely.)

[personal profile] adrian_turtle has just pointed out the importance of a hat to keep the sun off (which she will remind me of tomorrow morning, if I decide I am up for this physically).

(I now see that [personal profile] bibliofile had already mentioned this.)

Water or other potable liquid, possibly Gatorade or rehydration tablets. Also, without your phone, possibly some kind of entertainment, a paperback book or something.

I can't go because of the additive effects of my meds on reactions to heat.

Thanks for planning to go without, yanno, dying of dehydration.

Sunscreen before you leave home! Brimmed hat. Bandana/scarf for around your neck, that you can wet intermittently.

Water tip, if you like cold water: Put your (not full) container of water in the freezer the night before. It will all melt eventually, and stay colder much longer.

I'll be at the march in Chicago. It starts at 11 a.m., and I'll be meeting up with a group from church.
