Plague Diary: In Which I Have the Plague

In preparation for my gig in Cleveland, and because I had a minor gastric event, I submitted a saliva test, administered on Nov. 23rd.  Today, while at a rest stop in Illinois, I checked my email, and found that the result was positive.

I am currently in Indiana, and will go on to Cleveland and quarantine there.  I have informed my employer, and he will inform the Cleveland Clinic, and let me know how to proceed on Monday.  Even if the contract goes up in smoke, I will stay in Cleveland until I'm safe to go home.

I am very, very worried about my family.  I am somewhat worried about myself.  

As our president has said, It is what it is.  It didn't need to be this way, but it is.

Desperately trying to find any upside: IF you don't have any further trouble with the Air BnB, AND you don't get bad symptoms, THEN being away from your family for your isolation period is safer for them all.

It still sucks for you being completely on your own even in this best case.

I have definitely thought of that upside. If I don't get really sick, this will be an acceptable situation. If I get to work, it will even be more or less ideal, especially if having a mild case confers some immunity.

Okay, yeah, good outcomes to hope for! I hope you will be fine, and get to work, and wind up immune.

Here's hoping tomorrow's news favors the ideal and that your case remains mild. Very mild, actually. (Color me remembering how incapacitating my mother's mild stroke was.)

If the Cleveland Clinic can wait, they'll get the huge benefit of being able to reasonably expect that you'll have immunity for the duration of the gig. Fingers crossed for luck!

Sidenote: as you know, I'm an extreme night owl. If you find yourself awake and wanting to talk at an hour too late for calling most people, I'm here. :-)

Thank you, Geri. I am currently, god knows why, sleeping during normal sleeping hours. But If I do end up unable to sleep, I will definitely call you. Right now, I am leaning really heavily on my social network, who have been spectacularly great. I have someone putting together an emergency Penzey's delivery, someone else has decided what I need is really good ice cream, and is having that delivered, and people are all offering to talk or be available. Marissa took my panicked, teary call right before I called the BnB and just after I got yelled at by the hotelier, and said exactly the things I needed to get me through the next bit.

Yay for really good ice cream. Jeni's, by any chance? (Asked because they're the only ice cream business I know of who does nationwide delivery *and* it's really good ice cream.)
