Plague Diary: Tuesday Scares Me

So, I have an emotional support Discord server.  What with the Plague and all, I can't really invite people over to get drunk and watch the returns, so I'm pasting an invite link here, below.  The link should be good for the next week.  If you want to come hang out in my space and talk about the results as they come in, that'd be nifty.  I set up a channel for that discussion.   I expect everyone to be kind, and I expect no one to be in favor of Trump.  If you are a Trump supporter, please don't come over there.  If you do, I'll bounce you.

The rest of life is, well, chugging along in its usual fashion.  I had some basic medical tests which were expensive, but show that my internal organs are mostly doing what all they are supposed to do, modulo being sixty-two.  Colonoscopy prep was significantly improved by the installation of a cheap bidet.  (Thank you, David!)

I assume the stress will not kill me between now and Tuesday, so hopefully I'll see some of you on my Discord then.  Be well.  Volunteer if you can.  Vote.  My life depends on it.

I would offer to participate but I'll (hopefully) be on the road to El Paso. Early flight Wednesday to DC for a resumption of my annual visits to NIH.

Hopefully because our lodger is sick and we have no idea whether or not it's Covid, which would stand a high chance of utterly fucking up my plans, plus my wife is working the election.

Well, yikes and other expletives. I do hope it isn't COVID, and I hope that the NIH visits are productive.

The invite is to my server, and I don't expect we'll have a clear answer on Tuesday, so if you want to stop by some other day, you would be very welcome. Or, you know, in general, actually. There's not a lot of traffic. At any rate, the invite should work anytime in the next week, should you want to use it.

I tested negative yesterday afternoon, will retest Monday night or Tuesday morning.  He tested negative late yesterday afternoon, then the idiot retested early this morning!  The thing that really pisses me off is I gave him the test kit!  As far as I know, he doesn't have any!

I have Discord from the discussion session at online Mythcons, so I may give this a try.

My health, too, yes my very life may be at stake, for DT has expressed the utmost loathing for people like me, and the last time someone who talked like him came to power, the likes of me had our civil rights stripped within 5 years and were in concentration camps within a decade.

Allow me to clarify. The invitation code should work for one week starting yesterday. So, if you use that invite link, you will have access to my Discord going forward. It's very low traffic, and just my own weird space, but if you want to stick around after the election, do feel free. Also, it is un likely they'll be able to call the race on Tuesday, so I expect that the election channel will be active for a while. Do come and play.

I'm working the polls on Tuesday and expect not to have the ability to Discord, but I would if I could, as it is exactly the direction of thing I also find reassuring. I hope it goes well and I hope it's a good way to get through the day.

Well, since they are unlikely to call it on Tuesday, there will probably still be the need for election emotional support in the following days. If you accept the invite, you can always drop by later and see what's up.

I'm not a great Discord fan, but I will see. I'm so uncertain we'll know by the end of day with the SC fluttering on the sidelines, and all the batshit crazy MAGA lawyers waiting in the wings. Still, it sounds nicer than refreshing X and the drone of YouTube pundits.

Not working as a judge no more. 30 or 40 years is long enuf. I started at a VFW on Lake Street where the walls were a foot deep, at least, with cigarette smoke and the whole room could be thorwn into stark illumination by one central 60 watt incandescent light bulb. The counters on the 'big iron' voting machines were hard to read at the best of times -- like an old timey gas meter -- and the dark, smokey lack of light didn't help. Having them two inches off the floor helped a little because you were afraid what you might find if you had to dig in the carpet. And I was younger, sprier, and better sighted. Early voting has helped so much to cut down waiting lines on election day, and electronic pollbooks have helped to decrease out-of-precinct, err, accidents, and speedup same day registrations. It's a more friendly election day now than it ustta be. I've almost forgotten the after election day I got home at 4:15 am.
