It's 2008, and it's starting much better than 2007 did. I am not miserably depressed, and my psychiatrist is not suggesting that I consider ECT (Electro Convulsive Therapy, electric shock therapy). Really, it would be difficult to start a year out worse than 2007 started. (Possible, yes, knock wood and all that.)
This year, I'm in New York City staying with Patrick and Teresa and their hamster Hiro. This is a very fine thing indeed. I got to be here for Christmas, too. It's been relaxing and entertaining. Patrick and I went to the Museum of the City of New York a couple of days ago. It wasn't riveting, but it did have several cool doll houses. The coolest one was a doll house maintained by a wealthy woman who was well connected. Her artist friends painted miniatures for her to hang on the doll house walls. The main parlor rejoices in an original Duchamp.
Today, Patrick and I went to the American Natural History Museum to see the dinosaurs. They were wonderful. We also went to look at the rocks. They have one of the largest meteorites on the earth. Tons of iron. And you can touch it! Somehow, this visit, I missed the Star of India, which is a star sapphire. I'm sorry I failed to find it, because I remember it from my last visit there, and it is a truly beautiful stone. Milky blue with a clear star. It looks ethereal. I did, however, spend sometime admiring a topaz bigger than my head.
The rest of 2008 looks promising. I'll come home to my people and my cats, and then go back to school, with a semester of As behind me. I'll make real progress towards becoming a sleep tech. My drug load seems to be balanced, so I'll continue to be able to function well enough, and have very few really down days. Live well, work smart. These are the closest to New Year's Resolutions that I'm going to make.
