I got the job!
Nov. 17th, 2010 04:34 pmI interviewed yesterday at the Woodbbury location of the Minnesota Lung/Sleep Institute. I had interviewed previously at their Edina location. Although they said that they were doing a lot of internal moving about of people, and it would be until the end of the month before they were sure what they were doing, they called today and offered me the job. They said I had great qualifications and was obviously a good fit.
This is a quality outfit. They do good work. I've had a sleep study done there. They offer a uniform allowance, for heaven's sake. They're offering $22 an hour, a princely sum. And they do support for continuing education, $200 and two days off a year. Since continuing education is required for maintaining one's certification, this is important.
They are also offering a non-compete contract. They'll pay $2000 over the course of a year if I agree to work only for them within a 50 mile radius for 18 months. Since I hate changing jobs, this is a no brainer. I said yes.
I'll have a car commute for the first time in my life. I'm not looking foward to that, but people cope with it every day. It's about 30 minutes by car to Woodbury. I wish it were closer, but it's not so bad.
So I'll be employed for the first time in 3 years. I start the 29th. Seems so weird. I gotta go buy some scrubs to wear.

Date: 2010-11-17 11:20 pm (UTC)As for the car commute, you may learn to love it. I use mine to listen to podcasts or lectures from The Teaching Company. It's turned into some very nice relaxing downtime.
