As DDB has already reported, Blaisdell Poly now has two new kittens. It was complicated, and I kinda wish Josh had gotten them instead, but still, kittens!!! They are small (eight or ten weeks old, I think), a boy and a girl. One is all black (there might be a tiny bit of white being hidden by his collar, but I'm not sure) and the other is almost entirely black, with two white dots, one on her chest and one a little further down, not quite to her tummy. At least, I think the blacker one is the boy and the less black one is the girl. We were told that the boy kitty is the bolder one, and the blacker kitty is the one that's bolder, so that's probably it. The black one is now named Ninja, and the not quite as black one is named Nuit (which is French for night, unless I've gotten completely confused.) So, Nuit is the one that has stars on her. They are litter mates.
I could wish that they were more people oriented than they are, but hopefully that will come. They've been living in a cage at my vet's for quite some time, so they are less socialized than if they'd been hand-raised. When we visited them on Friday, DDB picked up one of them (I think it was Ninja) and he purred at DDB. So, they are not adverse to people.
They came here yesterday morning. They got out of the pet taxi, then promptly retreated behind the record collection, very occasionally poking a head out now and then.
This morning, after I got home from work, I came into the media room to sit. (They are being sequestered in the media room for now.) After a couple of minutes, Ninja came out from behind the records and has been wandering around, and has made many pitiful mewing noises. He has a very high, small meow. I don't know what he wants. He looks interested when I pat the sofa next to me, trying to encourage him to come over, but he hasn't gotten within three feet of me. Nuit has not made an appearance at all. I assume she is still behind the records.
The old kittens (they're twelve years old, now) have not met the new kittens, and I don't really know what they think. Arwen put up quite a fuss yesterday when we were visiting the new kittens, but I think that was mostly because there were people on the other side of a closed door, and she couldn't get in. I have hopes that things will not be too stressful, but cats, you never can tell. But these are fairly small, young kittens, so they are likely to be respectful and not try to challenge the hierarchy. I remember when we introduced the now old kittens to Lilith. She didn't like them very much, and she would hiss at them. They would promptly fall over and look contrite. While she never became the biggest fan of the kittens, she tolerated them fairly well after a while. So, I have hopes.

Date: 2012-11-27 10:09 pm (UTC)Much as I like living with Tillie and Jinx, my reasons for not living with animals on a full-time basis retain the same validity they had before Daddy was no longer able to care for them. If I can find a good home where they can stay together, that will likely be a good thing. If that happens at all, it will likely be closer than in Minnesota.
I wish all of Blaisdell Poly much joy with Ninja and Nuit!

Date: 2012-12-01 08:03 pm (UTC)I'm also a bit in love with a tuxedo Ragamuffin from Imperial Rags (they're in Jordan, MN IIRC). http://www.imperialrags.com/ Alas, Ragamuffins are expensive as kittens.
