So, last night I got up in time to spend some time in the media room with the kittens before I went to work. Much good did it do me. They stayed behind the records the entire time. Not so much as a kitten head did I see.

This morning, I stopped at PetSmart on the way home to buy some kitten food, since the amount the vet gave us was pretty much gone. I also bought some wet kitten food (four different cans), and some play mice that looked promising.

I put out two bowls of wet kitten food. In fairly short order, Ninja came out to eat it. He was cautious, but oh, the food! He ate all of one bowl and started in on the other. Nuit came out, much more hesitant, and hung around in the back ground. She got into the cat carrier a couple of times, and eventually approached the dish (now that Ninja was done with it), but then thought better of it and retreated. She did not, however, completely run away. The two of them spent about an hour or so wandering about the room, being more or less visible, though clearly cautious of the two big monkeys. (DDB was in the room, too.) I tossed them one of the new mice I had just bought. Nuit was charmed by it, and batted it around and picked it up in her mouth, and generally played with it, although with some caution. Ninja got to play with it, too. Eventually, they managed to drag it back behind the records, which is where it is, now, as are they. I can hear them making noises, so I think they are still playing with it, but out of sight.

Still haven't really gotten friendly with people, yet, but I'm hoping that will come, soon. I'm reluctant to grab them and pick them up at this point, I want them to feel more comfortable before they start getting manhandled.

Kittens! Have I mentioned, kittens? Kittens!

Not only am I reluctant to grab them, they haven't come within even extreme grabbing distance once since they were let out of the carrier.

I was dusting in there in preparation for the MinnStf meeting, and Ninja came out. He looked ready to retreat, but I remembered the Slow Blink, and he seemed to like that. He ate a lot of wet food, washed his face, checked out the cat carrier, and played with dust bunnies on the floor. He started to retreat several times, but when I blinked at him he stuck around. I told him he was a brave, brave kitten, and this went over all right. The doorbell rang while I was in there, and he heard David go answer it and then open boxes. This was Very Interesting but not too scary.

I left because Nuit kept putting her head out, and I was afraid she was hungry but wouldn't come out and eat while I was there.

It occurs to me that if you put wet food in the cat carrier, they might be capturable by Saturday so the meeting won't traumatize them.
