So, I've been watching "Glee" on Netflix. And one thing bothers me. (One thing? Ok, no, lots and lots of things about it bother me. In fact, there's a veritable smorgasbord of things that bother me about "Glee", but I just want to mention this one thing, ok?) Where are Rachel's parents? Her two gay dads? I mean, it's clear that she's a doted upon and spoiled child. We see other people's parents. But we never see hers. My best guess: "Glee" can only function in known stereotypes, and they don't have a handy "two dads" stereotype, so they can't cope. Either that, or they can't cope with an interracial marriage. But I'm betting the former.
Why do I watch "Glee"? Damned if I know. There are a few things to like about it. Kurt and Blaine's positive gay relationship, which even included on-air boy-kissing-boy. The fact that the teenagers actually have sex. I'd say that I like the fact that the teenagers are often immature in the ways that teenagers actually are immature, but unfortunately, none of the adults are in any way mature...in fact, they are often _less_ mature than the teenagers. Which is one of my on-going frustrations with the show. I do like the song and dance numbers, even though very little of the music is actually music I care for. Some of the dancing is rather fine. The plots...best not to think about the plots. Or the characters. Honestly, it's mostly pretty stupid. And yet, I watch. On the other hand, I also watch "Drop Dead Diva." Hey, don't judge me!
