Last night, when my patient finally arrived (he was late) he said, "Hey, who owns that silver car?"

"Um, me?"

"Well, did you know your tire is flat?"

No, no I did not. The right front tire was not just flat, but catastrophically flat. Spectacularly massively flat. It is possible I drove for a fair ways on it while catastrophically flat, though surely I would have noticed? Fuck if I know.

So, the nice roadside assistance people came out. The spare is in a compartment that is basically slung under the carriage, and the bolt is now completely fused. Impossible to get at the spare without cutting the bolt, which would leave the bracket a-hanging. Oh, fucking joy.

So, my car was towed to Tires Plus, which my insurance company recommended. They just called. The tire is not salvageable. They also don't think they will be any more successful at getting at the spare, but they'll try. However, they think that I should really replace the tires. The tires have been giving me grief for about a year, and they are getting on the thin side. So I told them to go ahead. This will cost about $600. And the sad truth is, if I were more awake, if I didn't desperately need to get to work tonight, I might try to shop around and see what could be done. But it's late, I"m tired, I need the goddamn car, and well.

Plusses: I had to walk 7 blocks to get home from the bus stop. So, exercise. Yay? Also Geico roadside assistance was utterly wonderful, responsive, and they totally covered the tow. So, you know, good things. I'll take what I can get.

Must sleep now. Fucking car.
