So, I fell in love with this variagated yarn (now called an ombre, no idea why) by Caron. When I realized that it was in Pamela's colors, it ended up being Pamela's afghan. This picture doesn't quite do the yarn justice, it's a little brighter than this. I may try to get a better picture, as well, since this doesn't quite show the shape. It's done in hexagonal pinwheels that get sewn together. It was a lot of fun to make, and Pamela likes it, so that's all good. Possibly this pattern looks better in a solid rather than an ombre, but boy was that yarn fun.

They've been ombres forever, or at least since I was a kid. My mom loved them.

I wonder if there's a regional difference, since I think we're not that far apart in age. Ten years, maybe? My mother always called it variegated (hah, spelled it correctly, for once). She didn't do a lot of crocheting when I was a kid. Mostly, she sewed, because away back then it was an economical way to accomplish clothes. These days, it's cheaper to go to Target. We would have been living in Pittsburgh at the time. Oh, and my mother was from Boston. I remember the first time I saw ombre mentioned, I had absolutely no idea what they were talking about.
